SPORT 2000 International is making more steps towards social responsibility

Responsible corporate actions have always been the basis of sincere and trustworthy business practices. In recent years, the expectations of how businesses are to behave in this context have been defined using the term “ESG”. ESG stands for environmental, social and corporate governance. The three-part phrase is now an integral part of the corporate strategies of modern companies – and SPORT 2000 International is no different.

Nowadays, customers are increasingly demanding social responsibility from companies.
Not fulfilling the ESG criteria can be a reason to decide against a purchase. Transparent disclosure and communication of ESG measures are therefore not just nice to have, but imperative. SPORT 2000 International is taking responsible steps in this direction. “Assuming responsibility is very important to us as a company and as an international brand. In this context, ESG is a major topic for us. Step by step, we are setting an example for our environment and our interactions. In doing so, we are formulating realistic goals that we can implement properly. Empty promises help no one,” says Véronique Dell, Project Manager E-Brands at SPORT 2000 International.

Making a big difference with small steps

As a committed sports retail group, SPORT 2000 international has already implemented some of these measures, both internally and externally. Now the company is going a step further. With the introduction of the new WITEBLAZE brand, recycled materials and packaging are being increasingly used in product development.

In the area of social responsibility, SPORT 2000 International’s long-standing membership of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is noteworthy. The organisation founded in 2003 is an association of retailers, importers and manufacturers who are committed to improving the working conditions in the global supply chain. “The BSCI membership allows SPORT 2000 International to ensure that the own brand suppliers are regularly inspected to check compliance with human rights and workplace safety regulations,” says Dell of this social engagement.

In terms of corporate management, SPORT 2000 International is visibly implementing the principles of ESG through fair business practices, employee-oriented HR policies and outward transparency. Dell also knows that much more is possible with regard to ESG: “Environmental, social and corporate governance is a very diverse and comprehensive topic. That’s why, in September 2022, SPORT 2000 International will be starting a collaboration with a company specialised in this area – VAUDE. Our goal is to expand the three areas in a structured way over the long term and to take notice of our responsibility as a specialist sports retailer in an even more active way.

Sustainable products to combat consumerism

SPORT 2000 International puts particular emphasis on responsible production conditions. SPORT 2000 International uses the Supplier Code of Conduct (SCoC) as the basis for a high standard in production to ensure that all directives and national and international work, as well as social and environmental laws are complied with.

With the introduction of the new WITEBLAZE brand, SPORT 2000 International is bringing long-lasting, multifunctional products of a high quality to the market from the 2023 summer season onwards. “For SPORT 2000 International, this is the first step towards sustainable collections. In the future, reusable, recycled and – if possible – natural fibre-based materials should be developed and used,” reports Dell on the goal of resource-conserving production.

Alongside sustainable products and packaging, where SPORT 2000 International sees the greatest potential effect, other measures are also planned. For example, there is a project on the circular economy, which SPORT 2000 wants to offer to its stakeholders as soon as possible. Another part of the plans for the future is supporting climate protection projects to compensate for CO2 emissions caused by transporting goods and clear communication about measures already implemented with regard to corporate social responsibility (CSR). “As an internationally active company, our goal is to provide impetus to our environment, social interactions and corporate management. It is important to us to launch meaningful projects that can be implemented properly to make a valuable contribution,” says Dell, looking towards the future.
